Pakistan Women humiliated their Thailand counterparts by 97
runs in their first game of the Asian Cricket Council Women’s Twenty20 Asia
Cup.
Marina Iqbal shone with the ball, picking up five wickets for
just 10 runs as Thailand were bundled out for 32 after Pakistan, put into bat,
made 129 for seven in their allotted overs at the Guanggong International
Cricket Stadium.
Iqbal made regular inroads into the inexperienced Thailand
batters, while Qanita Jalil also claimed two for five in four economical overs.
Even 12 wides did not help make the scorecard look better for Thailand.
Earlier, Pakistan batters gave a better account of themselves
than at the ICC World Twenty20. Bismah Maroof and Jalil gave the team a
reasonable start with the former scoring a well-made 23.
However, it was Javeria Khan (33) and Asmavia Iqbal (18) who
gave the innings the final impetus, taking the team close to the 130-run mark.
In another match at the tournament, Bangladesh Women
prevailed over hosts China.
